Helping your child with maths at home: A guide for NZ parents
It all begins with an idea. Start by making maths part of everyday life: use shopping, baking, travel times and backyard projects to practice number sense, measuring, estimation and problem-solving. Focus on understanding rather than speed; ask your child to explain their thinking and offer small strategies (counting on, using arrays, drawing diagrams) rather than giving answers.
